Hot water cylinders should be serviced annually, particularly unvented systems.
Regular servicing ensures:
● Safety devices operate correctly
● System pressure is correctly maintained
● Continued compliance with G3 regulations
As part of a standard unvented hot water cylinder service, the following checks and works are carried out:
● Full service and compliance check in accordance with G3 regulations
● Record and verification of operating conditions, including system pressure, expansion vessel pressure, valve ratings, and primary circuit limits (where applicable)
● Testing of the expansion vessel
● Recharging of the expansion vessel (including recharging the internal air gap on Megaflo type cylinders where applicable)
● Cleaning of system strainers/filters
● Inspection of the tundish for signs of discharge
● If there is a leak to the tundish, then testing of the PRV and TPRV is required.
Any discharge observed at the tundish indicates a potential fault, commonly related to the expansion vessel, pressure relief valve (PRV), or temperature and pressure relief valve (TPRV). Where faults are identified, further remedial works will be quoted separately.
